Nov. 28, 2016-- The Libraries Committee has produced an outstanding report, which includes recommendations that address fostering student success, supporting research and faculty services, and developing strategies for the development, management, and preservation of the Libraries’ collections.

Oct. 6, 2016-- This is a third update on the University’s plans to implement the new U.S. Department of Labor rules governing minimum salary thresholds and overtime pay for part-time officers of research and of the Libraries.

The Provost announces several steps toward achieving a uniform set of benefits for all PhD students who are eligible for funding throughout Columbia. 

Mar. 28, 2016-- Columbia is raising the pay rate of all part-time hourly student workers to $15 per hour over the next three years.

The Office of the Provost is launching a new designation, Designated Academic Colleague (DAC), to support scholarly engagement between Columbia personnel and their non-Columbia colleagues in the field.

Columbia University now requires all new full-time and part-time academic hires to complete a pre-hire attestation disclosing any prior discriminatory, harassing, retaliatory, or other forms of misconduct.

These ranges should be used in determining the salaries for officers of research throughout the University for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The U.S. Department of Labor has revised the Fair Labor Standards Act to raise the minimum salary threshold for overtime eligibility, affecting Columbia University and other employers nationwide, with increases to $844 per week starting July 1, 2024, and $1,128 per week starting January 1, 2025.

I write to update you on negotiations with our student union.

As part of our efforts to promote inclusion in the classroom, students will be able to register their pronouns in CourseWorks starting this semester.

I write to provide a few key details regarding our return to campus and to in-person instruction this fall.

This revised paragraph must be included in all offer and reappointment letters for faculty, officers of research, and officers of the libraries.

We are writing to share a brief update regarding the University’s financial circumstances and outlook.

New policies will govern the return to full campus density. These regard instruction, the use of space, the scale of gatherings, travel, visitors, PCR testing, and vaccination.

The tentative agreement that Columbia reached with GWC-UAW was not ratified in a vote by the bargaining unit. This letter outlines the implications of that vote. 

Following the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine, and guided by the priority of campus safety, Columbia has commenced planning for a full schedule of in-person academic instruction inside our classrooms, with faculty, students, and the majority of staff back on campus. 

Effective immediately, the terms of the Parental Workload Relief Plan for nonprofessorial faculty on the Morningside campus have been updated.

We are pleased to have reached a historic tentative agreement with the Graduate Workers of Columbia-UAW that advances the interests of our graduate workers and strengthens the University academically and as an employer.

I am heartened to report that the Graduate Workers of Columbia-UAW agreed to a proposal to suspend the strike and bridge remaining differences through mediation.

I report on two matters: Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action and the bargaining process. We have proposed an appeals panel composed of individuals who are not part of the University to hear cases on a rotating basis.
