Feb. 9, 2016-- The University has established a new International Travel Planning Policy and created a new companion website.

Feb. 8, 2016-- The new guide provides the evidence base and strategies necessary for schools and departments to develop new mentoring programs, or to assess and augment their existing programs.

We are pleased to share with you the fourth Request for Proposals for the President’s Global Innovation Fund. 

The University is undergoing its ten-year reaccreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in 2015-2016.

The Provost announces thirteen faculty members who have been selected for the 2015-2017 Provost Leadership Fellows program.

Jan. 28, 2015-- This is an important reminder that you enter textbook information into CourseWorks for every course you teach, in time to help students choose the courses for which they will register. Please submit textbook information for your Spring semester courses as soon as possible. 

Jan. 22, 2015-- The Provost highlights two new developments in the University’s ongoing efforts to prevent gender-based misconduct, strengthen the response to such misconduct when it occurs, and enhance our campus climate.

These ranges should be used in determining the salaries for officers of research throughout the University for the 2026-2027 academic year.

The Office of the Provost is launching a new designation, Designated Academic Colleague (DAC), to support scholarly engagement between Columbia personnel and their non-Columbia colleagues in the field.

Columbia University now requires all new full-time and part-time academic hires to complete a pre-hire attestation disclosing any prior discriminatory, harassing, retaliatory, or other forms of misconduct.

These ranges should be used in determining the salaries for officers of research throughout the University for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The U.S. Department of Labor has revised the Fair Labor Standards Act to raise the minimum salary threshold for overtime eligibility, affecting Columbia University and other employers nationwide, with increases to $844 per week starting July 1, 2024, and $1,128 per week starting January 1, 2025.

With the Graduate Workers of Columbia-UAW strike having begun, despite hundreds of hours of negotiation and much already settled, a series of clarifications seems imperative.

I write to share some reflections in light of GWC-UAW telling us that it will begin an official strike on March 15, based on an authorization vote taken one year ago.

To ensure that the principles of Affirmative Action are maintained, effective immediately any hire that needs to be first approved by the Provost’s Hiring Freeze Committee must follow these two procedures.

You are invited to join one of two virtual town halls about COVID-19 vaccines and distribution. These forums will build on vaccine information shared earlier this week in campus announcements. 

The spring 2021 will look similar to the fall and nearly all classes will be remote during the first two weeks of the new term.

 

We write with information about Columbia's planning and policy for distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine. A town hall about these topics will include information regarding vaccines.

We write to share an update on the University’s financial picture and report on our early planning for the year ahead.

Lee C. Bollinger announced that Mary C. Boyce, Dean of The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, will become the next Provost of the University on July 1, 2021, succeeding Interim Provost Ira Katznelson, who has ably served since September 2019.

In response to rising COVID-19 rates in New York, Columbia has reduced the size of non-academic gatherings and initiated travel-related “departure” SARS-CoV-2 testing. The University has also appointed a vaccine task force.

As COVID-19 becomes more pervasive, we urge you to redouble efforts to help prevent the spread of the virus.

 

Please join members of the President’s Advisory Task Force on COVID-19 for a virtual forum for faculty and employees.

In this time of heightened stress, students confront significant challenges. We offer suggestions, drawn from the insights of the University’s mental health working group, and highlight resources you can call on to support students.

This July, faculty and administrators participated in the Mini-Institute on Addressing Anti-Black Racism entitled, “Moving beyond Symbols and Performance: A Radical Reimagining of Antiracist Selves and Institutions.” Augustin Chaintreau, Associate Professor of Computer Science, was a participant in the summer pilot, and reflects on his experience.
