Carolyn Sachs Singer

Biography

Carolyn Sachs Singer joined the Office of Work/Life in June 2010 and is now the Associate Director of the School and Child Care Search Service.

Carolyn is responsible for supporting faculty and staff as they seek education and care for their young children by providing resources and information related to parenting and child care. She serves as liaison to the Columbia Affiliated Early Learning Centers as well as other nursery and pre-schools around throughout New York City, and coordinates the annual Columbia University Early Education and Child Care Fair with the Office of Government and Community Affairs.

Before joining the Office of the Provost, Carolyn was a classroom teacher and then served as Managing Director of Children’s and Family Programs at the Riverdale YM-YWHA for twelve years. She also served as the Senior Director for Family Life at the JCC in Manhattan.

Carolyn received her bachelor’s degree in Jewish Studies from the University of Cincinnati, her master’s degree in Social Work from Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and her master’s degree in Leadership in Early Childhood Education from Fordham University. She is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the National Coalition of Campus Child Care Centers and the New York-based Citizen’s Committee for Children.

A native New Yorker, Carolyn has two adult children. Carolyn often spends her weekends cycling around the tri-state area. She and her husband live on the Upper West Side.
