Anne V. Shutkin

Anne Shutkin joined the Office of the Provost as Chief of Staff in January of 2025, having previously served as chief of staff to the chief operating officer. Prior to Columbia, she served for five years as the chief of staff and senior strategic advisor for university affairs in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Dean's Office at Yale University. In this role, she acted as a counselor to the Dean, assisting with the development and implementation of the strategic vision and long-range plan for the FAS, and partnering with her on special projects, including fund-raising, communications, and trustee engagement. She also helped lead the creation and execution of FAS-wide policies and programs to support the recruitment, appointment, promotion and tenure, retention, and advancement of faculty.

Anne has also worked in the President’s Office of the Central Park Conservancy as director of research and special projects, where her portfolio included work on strategic planning, board governance, capital projects, and government relations. She previously held positions at the New York City Economic Development Corporation as a vice president and executive director of BuildNYC and the NYCIDA, and as an associate in the Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance group at Milbank LLP.

Anne is a graduate of Yale College and of Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. She is a member of the Columbia Law School Board of Visitors and the board of trustees of Bank Street College of Education.
