On Friday, September 16, over sixty new faculty came together for a welcome reception at Faculty House hosted by the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement. In her opening remarks, Provost Mary Boyce welcomed the guests, noting that colleagues from each of Columbia’s schools, representing a multitude of disciplines, were present. She encouraged the faculty to mingle, as even a brief conversation could result in lasting friendships—and innovative interdisciplinary collaborations.

Catherine Ross, Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, provided a brief overview of the CTL’s extensive programs for faculty, including antiracist pedagogy resources and a new mentoring initiative to support graduate students and postdocs. Executive Vice President for University Life and Senior Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement Dennis Mitchell closed the program by reminding faculty to review the New Faculty Orientation modules on Canvas, thanking those who contributed to the comprehensive resource. He recommended that everyone seek out colleagues in the Office of Work/Life, who provide an invaluable service to faculty in all phases of their careers.
