Bio
Ryan Nazari is pursuing a PhD in Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies and a certificate in the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society. He is curious about certain literary traditions in modern Iran such as Assyrian and Armenian and how they fit into greater discourses of nationalism, world literature, and cultural history. He currently studies and seeks to gain advanced proficiency and fluency in Persian, Armenian, Turkish, and Assyrian. Before Columbia, he earned his MPhil at the University of Oxford and BA at Santa Clara University and taught English in Armenia through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. His research has been selected for several awards including the Azizeh Sheibani Essay Prize at Oxford and the Canterbury Scholarship at Santa Clara.
