Bio
Nick Deas is broadly interested in Natural Language Processing and developing methodologies that are more robust to noisy, unstructured textual data as found on social media. Additionally, Deas is interested in the intersection of Natural Language Processing and the social sciences, particularly Psychology, Political Science, and Sociology. Before coming to Columbia University, Deas earned a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Psychology from Clemson University in 2022, researching the application of Natural Language Processing to political tweets and online mental health support communities as well as information extraction for online texts. Deas is now also an NSF Graduate Research Fellow and Presidential Fellow in Computer Science as he begins his doctoral studies.
