Bio
Naima Okami is a first-year PhD student in the Department of Biological Sciences. She received her BS in biology from Brown University and has worked on a variety of research questions relating to understanding biological systems from an evolutionary perspective. Following undergrad, she helped set up and manage a SARS-CoV-2 surveillance testing and sequencing program in New Orleans, LA. At Columbia, Naima is interested in studying the genetics of adaptation and exploring applications of evolutionary theory to challenges posed by our rapidly changing world.
