Bio
Mindle Shavy, originally from Brooklyn, NY, embarked on her chemistry journey at Union College, culminating in a BA in Chemistry. Her pursuit of advanced studies was inspired by a Fulbright Fellowship, leading her to Columbia University. At Columbia, she is engaged in single-molecule research in the Kaufman group, where she explores the enigmatic world of supercooled liquids through laser microscopy. Teaching holds a special place in Mindle Shavy's academic life. As a General Chemistry lab teaching assistant at Columbia, she cherishes guiding students from various majors and witnessing their evolution into researchers throughout the lab course. Mindle Shavy recently received the 2024 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. Outside the lab, Mindle Shavy balances her time between running in local parks, weightlifting, and enjoying moments with her delightful dog. Her aim is to blend a love for research with a passion for teaching, fostering both scientific inquiry and personal growth in the field of chemistry.
