Campus-Wide Partnerships

Our goal is to strengthen partnerships with all schools at Columbia and other central offices to support faculty and students.

  • Education Deans

Since December 2014, the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Programs (OVPAP) has convened regular meetings of the Education Deans across all schools at Columbia University, to discuss a variety of topics including process and quality of external reporting, new collaborative initiatives, educational policies and programs, and the challenges we face in general.

  • Admissions Deans/Directors

OVPAP engages in regular discussions with admissions deans and directors from across the University to discuss admissions related matters.

  • Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) Codes

CIP codes are a six-digit system developed by the U.S. Department of Education to classify and identify academic programs at postsecondary institutions. This standard taxonomy is used for federal and state data collection, reporting and analysis, allowing for consistent comparisons of programs across different institutions. Schools and programs may request to update the CIP code for an existing program.

  • NC-SARA (National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements)

The National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) has a mission to make it easier for students to take online courses offered by post-secondary institutions based in another state and to ensure more efficient, consistent, and effective regulation of distance education programs. OVPAP coordinates Columbia's participation in NC-SARA.

  • Signing Authority

The Provost and a select group of others at the University are the only individuals at Columbia with the authority to sign certain contracts, agreements, documents, and other instruments between the University and third parties. Deans and others who have been delegated with signatory authority receive a letter with this information from the Provost, and such authority must be renewed annually.
