Event Recap: Broadening Your Funding Opportunities

Workshop held October 8, 2026
Organized by the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement

How can faculty successfully identify and pursue novel funding opportunities in today’s challenging landscape?

October 12, 2026

On October 8th, faculty from across Columbia joined Dimitra Koutsantoni from the Office of Corporate Foundation Relations and Brittney Destin from the Office of Research Initiatives and Development to learn strategies for identifying funding opportunities and developing and positioning proposals for success.

Two especially helpful takeaways from this session were:

  1. Use GrantForward to identify funding sources and find potential collaborators at Columbia. Once in the GrantForward interface, select the “In Your Institution” to identify and connect with others at Columbia working on related topics. You can also use this platform to share relevant funding opportunities directly with others.
  2. Sign up for a monthly digest of Corporate and Foundation Funding Opportunities. If curious, you can also browse past digests to preview the types of opportunities highlighted.

To learn more, see the slides here (UNI authentication required). Faculty are also invited to reach out to the Offices of Corporate Foundations Relations and Research Initiatives and Development directly to request 1/1 support. Several schools have their own Corporate and Foundation Relations officers who can serve as the first point of contact for faculty in those schools (learn more here).

This session was part of a new series, Becoming Columbia Faculty, which aims to orient new and continuing Columbia faculty to central resources and create ongoing opportunities to connect with peers from across the institution.
