They would come to me and say, "Hmm...this is a question I always wanted to ask, but my gynecologist has always been a man and I feel so much more comfortable talking to you as a woman about these issues."
And so they would ask me these questions about sexual health and sexuality. Embarrassing--I hate to admit, but I wasn't really informed enough to give great answers to questions because we didn't talk about it in medical school. We didn't talk about it in OB/GYN residency. And women were asking me questions, and I didn't feel confident in giving those answers.
And so I had to do a lot of self-training, reading all the books that were out there, hanging out with sex therapists, going to conferences, learning as much as I could. And then that led to speaking to magazines about how I could help them spread this information that I feel was life-changing and important for women to know about.
Then it led to two books, and one of them Oprah kind of latched onto and had two shows about - "What your mother never told you about sex," and once you're on Oprah, it kind of you know opens a lot of doors to to the rest of the world.
