Request for Proposals for the Provost's Online and Hybrid Learning Grants

Dear fellow members of the Columbia Community:

I am pleased to share an upcoming set of funding opportunities for Columbia faculty aiming to integrate new educational methods and technologies into their classrooms and learning environments.

The Hybrid Learning Course Redesign and Delivery grant program provides support for faculty who are developing innovative and technology-rich pedagogy and learning strategies in the classroom. Instructors of selected courses will have access to the resources and support from the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) for content development, instructional design, media production, assessment, and project management.  Awardees will receive in-kind support from the CTL and will also be funded with a grant of up to $20,000. A key goal of this initiative, which began in 2014, is to measure the effectiveness of these efforts, and to improve instructional delivery methods and learning outcomes of Columbia University students from all disciplines.  Faculty can apply for support for courses held during the 2017-18 academic year. The Office of the Provost will also continue to support open online courses taught by Columbia faculty via a Request for Proposals for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).  Columbia courses offered through MOOC platforms continue to attract and reach a large global learning community, stimulate curiosity and intellectual exploration, make teaching and research activities at the University more visible, and promote public engagement and dialogue through our open online courses.  While the experience of developing and offering these courses can be rewarding, MOOCs require substantial time to prepare.  Accepted courses will receive consultation services and hands-on support for instructional design and media production from the CTL.  A limited number of grants of up to $25,000 each will be awarded.  The deadline for submission of applications is Monday, April 24, 2017.  To learn more, access the link to Request for Proposals for MOOCs. 

The CTL will be holding a town hall on Tuesday, January 31st at 2pm in Butler 212 to give interested faculty members more information about the two RFPs, and the application process. It will also hold open office hours the week of March 6, 2017 including Friday, March 10, 1pm - 5pm in Butler 212 where interested faculty members can walk in and receive consultation and feedback on their projects and applications.  Finally, you can learn more about prior supported projects and interact with previous awardees at the Celebration of Teaching & Learning Symposium on Monday, March 6, 2017 in Low Library.
