Provost Mentor Programs for Faculty Success and Leadership
The Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement (OVPFA) is launching two new mentorship programs aimed at equipping participating faculty across disciplines with the guidance, skills, and networks needed to thrive in their current and future roles and advance the university’s mission:
- The Mentorship for Academic Progress and Success (MAPS) program supports early career faculty to successfully and confidently establish their scholarly and institutional selves through guided career development, intentional network-building, and strategic engagement with campus resources.
- The Leadership Initiative for Faculty Training and Mentorship (LIFT) supports mid-career faculty interested in pursuing leadership roles at Columbia by demystifying and developing core competencies relevant to the realities of academic leadership roles today and strategizing key networks and actions pertinent to future roles.

External Network Resources
Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER)
CIMER aims to foster inclusive excellence and professional development in research environments. It develops, implements, and studies evidence-based, culturally responsive interventions to improve research mentoring for both mentors and mentees. Its curricula include Entering Mentoring, Entering Research, Mentoring Up, and etc.
Faculty Advancement Network (FAN)
The Faculty Advancement Network (FAN) is a consortium of national research universities collaborating to advance excellence at scale through a thriving professoriate. The network is led by a Steering Committee with expertise across faculty affairs, advancement, development, diversity, inclusion, and graduate education who agree: systemic challenges demand collaborative solutions. To that end, the community of practice is continually seeking collaborations of consequence that reimagine the norms, structures, policies, and programs that shape university cultures and the academic workforce.
Columbia University is an institutional member of the NCFDD, a nationally-recognized independent organization dedicated to supporting faculty, particularly under-represented faculty, post-docs, and graduate students in making successful transitions throughout their careers. NCFDD provides online career development, training, and mentoring resources.
