Resources and Support for School Leaders

The Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement has compiled the following resources to support leaders across Columbia.

Leadership Intranet

In response to feedback from department and school leaders, we have compiled relevant resources into an intranet site for all current department leaders. This site includes information about:

  1. Resources to support faculty and navigate common issues
  2. Central resources relevant to faculty across career stages
  3. Leadership convenings organized by OVPFA

Access to this site is limited to department leaders via UNI authentication. If you are a current department Chair or Vice Dean and are not able to access this site, please email [email protected] for access.

This is an evolving resource; we welcome your suggestions about what more to include.

Guide for Faculty Hiring

We strongly recommend that all school and department leaders planning faculty searches review our 2025 Guide to Best Practices in Faculty Search and Hiring to ensure a fair search and review process for all faculty hires.

In addition to this guide, we have developed accompanying materials which you can find on the Leadership Intranet. These materials include:

  • A sample rubric to help search committees designed to help hiring committees translate the Guide’s recommendations into practice.
  • A presentation covering key material from the Guide in an accessible format that can be shared directly with search committees.

See the Leadership Intranet to access these materials.
