The Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement has compiled the following resources to support leaders across Columbia. 

Guide for Faculty Hiring

We strongly recommend that all school and department leaders planning faculty searches review our 2025 Guide to Best Practices in Faculty Search and Hiring to ensure a fair search and review process for all faculty hires. In addition to this guide, we have developed an accompanying rubric to help search committees establish and weight their criteria before reviewing applications and to evaluate all candidates through a consistent, evidence-based process. Intranet for Department Leaders (coming soon)

In response to feedback from Department Chairs, we are compiling relevant resources into an intranet site for all current department leaders. This site will include information about:

  1. Leadership convenings organized by OVPFA
  2. Resources to solve common problems
  3. An overview of central resources via the Office of the Provost


Access to this site will be limited to department leaders via UNI authentication.

FAN and NCFDD Resources

Columbia is an institutional member of FAN and NCFDD.

The Ivy+ Faculty Advancement Network (FAN) is a consortium of research universities collaborating to advance excellence at scale through faculty leadership development initiatives and programs.
