Social Work
Bio
Madison is a doctoral student at Columbia University School of Social Work where she studies the intersections of intimate partner violence (IPV), illicit drug use and criminalization. Her research specifically explores the multi-level impact substance use coercion has on women who use drugs and experience IPV. Madison is a current fellow in the NIH T-32 Predoctoral Training Program at Columbia University and aims to develop a syndemic-based intervention that uses an abolitionist framework to increase safe drug use among survivors of violence. Before her doctoral studies, Madison has worked as a counselor and legal advocate for survivors detained at Rikers Island. In her personal time, she runs a community mutual aid initiative providing survivors of IPV and sex trafficking with free tattoo coverups. Prior to her doctoral studies, Madison earned her BA from Rutgers University, New Brunswick and her MSW from Columbia University School of Social Work.
