Accreditation Site Visits

As with all accredited institutions, Columbia University’s reaccreditation process has two phases: first, the Self-Study Report (shared with the community in September 2024) and supporting evidence, which are reviewed by a team of colleagues from peer institutions; and second, the Site Visit by this same team of colleagues from peer institutions—the Site Visit Team. The Site Visit is an opportunity for the team of our colleagues to visit Columbia over several days and meet with faculty, staff, students, and administrators to further discuss the Self-Study Report and have conversations about the University. The Site Visit Team also visits one third of the additional instructional locations Columbia has beyond its main location in New York City.

The Site Visit Team is selected from other Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) member institutions whose professional knowledge and background puts them in the unique position to determine whether Columbia complies with the MSCHE Standards and Requirements of Affiliation.

Following the Site Visit, the Team will submit their report to MSCHE, and the Commission will make a decision about Columbia’s reaccreditation in June 2025.

Site Visit April 2025

Columbia’s full Site Visit Team in New York City was April 6-9. During this time, they will met with various members of our community. These included small meetings with leadership, as well as larger sessions with students, faculty, and staff. Through the assessment of the Self-Study Report, evidence inventory, and insight drawn from the on-campus meetings, the Site Visit Team wrote a report on their findings. Key findings were presented to the Columbia community on the final day of their visit.
