The Office of the Provost hosted its third annual reception honoring newly tenured faculty, celebrating a diverse cohort of scholars who achieved the career milestone in 2024.

The cohort includes 68 faculty from 11 schools and colleges at Columbia, plus affiliates Teachers College and Barnard. The event welcomed newly tenured faculty, deans, and department chairs, as well as the Tenure Review Advisory Committee, a central University advisory body that advises the Provost on tenure recommendations.

Interim President Katrina Armstrong, Provost Angela V. Olinto, and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Eugenia Lean offered remarks and a toast to the honorees.

In her remarks, Interim President Armstrong expressed her appreciation for the faculty and her optimism for Columbia’s future. “You represent the absolute best of what we have to offer the world. We are so grateful that you are a part of this institution,” Armstrong said. “I am so proud to be here with you today and I am so confident in our future because of what you bring to Columbia.”

Provost Olinto echoed the sentiment and reflected on the exciting possibilities ahead. “Tenure is a beginning,” she said. “This is a chance to celebrate, breathe a little—and then, consider even more ambitious goals.”
