This program will highlight the research contributions of recently hired Columbia faculty engaged in scholarship that elevates Black youth, promotes racial justice, and supports the dismantling of structures that hinder Black joy. Panelists will describe how their research makes room for Black joy, and will discuss how to engage with, and encourage, Black youth communities.

The panel will be moderated by Courtney Cogburn, Associate Professor of Social Work and Associate Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the Data Science Institute.

Panelists:

  • Charles Lea, Assistant Professor of Social Work
  • Marissa Thompson, Assistant Professor of Sociology
  • Nkemka Anyiwo, Assistant Professor of Social Work
  • Natasha Johnson, Assistant Professor of Social Work

All Columbia affiliates and neighboring community members, including children, are invited to attend. A light lunch will be provided immediately following the panel discussion.
