ICAP, inspired by the recent renewed focus on racism and injustice in the U.S., was proposing to turn such a critical lens on the work it does overseas. ICAP was proposing hosting a one-day workshop for ICAP staff based in New York on Decolonizing Development. This participatory workshop engaged ICAP employees in discussions on the concepts of race, privilege, and the colonial legacy of international development work. It was our expectation that in hosting this workshop for ICAP/New York staff, employees were able to apply these concepts to their work to ensure ICAP’s programs are designed and implemented in a way that is cognizant of the intersection of issues of racism and equity and ICAP’s core public health work.

This project was funded through the Addressing Racism: A Call to Action for Higher Education initiative of the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement.
