Summary Job Description
The University’s Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action (EOAA) has overall responsibility for the management and enforcement of the University’s nondiscrimination, equal opportunity and affirmative action policies and coordinates compliance activities under these policies and the applicable federal, state and local laws.

Under the direction of the Associate Provost for Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action , the Director of Training and Compliance will have the following responsibilities and duties:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage and Direct policy and prevention training for students, staff, faculty and other appropriate audiences on the University’s nondiscrimination, equal opportunity and affirmative action policies and procedures and applicable federal state and local laws.  This includes:

  • Engaging in pro-active outreach to ensure that EOAA is conducting training for all University populations who need training,
  • Working strategically and collaboratively with University constituents, to develop and coordinate joint trainings (where appropriate),
  • Key University Consitutents include but are not limited to: Office of the General Counsel; Office of Gender Based Misconduct; University Title IX Coordinator; Office of Disability Services; Office of Sexual Violence Response; Department of Human Resouces; Division of Academic Appointments; Faculty Diversity and Inclusion
  • Creating new, and editing existing, training materials to ensure that they are fresh, engaging and up to date with applicable policy and law,
  • Developing and maintaining educational materials such as brochures, EOAA web content, newsletters, etc to complement training efforts and keep the campus community informed of EOAA policies and procedures,
  • Conducting and facilitating group/departmental trainings (or co-conducting with appropriate University constitutents),
  • Conducting one-on-one corrective action trainings,
  • Evaluating the EOAA training program on a regular basis,
  • Working closely with the Director of Investigations to identify areas of need for education and resources,
  • Working with the Manager of Operations to ensure that all training records including dates, materials and attendees are tracked and maintained in the EOAA training database.

Manage and Direct EOAA compliance activities and projects related to EOAA’s policies.  This includes:

  • Ensuring coordination with appropriate University constituents to provide quality, consistency and effectiveness of training and compliance programs across campus.
  • Providing compliance support through education, resources, oversight and assistance to the campus community.
  • Identifying and developing initiatives to address specific areas of EOAA compliance.
  • Conducting compliance assessments, including preparing annual compliance summaries to identify risks and provide appropriate reporting.
  • In consultation with the Office of General Counsel assisting in the preparation of  responses to EEOC, OCR and other federal, state or local government agencies regarding discrimination, harassment or gender-based misconduct complaints and/or legal compliance issues.
  • In collaboration with EOAA staff, maintaining EOAA website, particularly with compliance updates, tools and resources.

Supervise the EOAA Analyst.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade:
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant:

Master’s degree or other advanced degree required.  Minimum five to seven years of relevant experience. 

Additional Position-Specific Minimum:
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant:

Experience providing trainings and/or presentations in a professional setting. Must be self-directed and pro-active with excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills. Must have strong analytical and project management skills. Ability to prioritize and respond to requests in a timely and knowledgeable manner. Requires the flexibility and adaptability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are critical. Proven ability to work with confidential information in a discreet and professional manner. Proven experience in working collaboratively and effectively with varied constituencies across a large organization. Demonstrated skill in tracking and maintaining data and developing reports, including a strong working knowledge of tools for managing and presenting data. Must have advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).  

Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to conduct legal research and writing; familiarity with civil rights laws, regulations and procedures, and/or employment and labor law; experience in higher education or large complex institution.  Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equal opportunity, diversity, and non-discrimination.
