Catherine E. Ross

Biography

Catherine Ross joined the Office of the Provost in July 2017 as the Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).  She is responsible for the vision and strategic leadership of the CTL. Catherine works closely with the Vice Provost for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation, Columbia’s schools and colleges, and faculty leaders to determine priorities for the CTL’s initiatives, programs, and resource development.

Before joining the Office of the Provost, Catherine served as Executive Director of the Teaching and Learning Center at Wake Forest University, and as the Associate Director for the Institute for Teaching and Learning at the University of Connecticut. Catherine holds a doctoral degree in Russian and Adult Second Language Acquisition from the University of Texas at Austin, a master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), a master's degree in Russian from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a bachelor's degree in Russian and Spanish from the University of Delaware.

She has taught ESL, Russian, and various Applied Linguistics courses at all of these universities, as well as at a number of international universities where she also provided teaching support for instructors. Catherine is a frequent contributor to national and international teaching and learning publications and conferences.
