Fostering Inclusive Excellence - addressing Racism & Culture in PT Education (FIERCE) is an introductory project designed to build capacity for sustainable engagement and systemic change within the Programs in Physical Therapy at CUIMC. We will promote a bias-free culture that encourages self-reflection, constructive conversations, and equity-minded decision-making through faculty development workshops, curriculum reforms, and co-curricular discussions on race and health; inclusion and belonging; and bias. We will critically evaluate classroom and clinical teaching practices in order to identify exemplars of racial diversity/ inclusive teaching principles and identify areas for improvement. Lastly, we will work collaboratively with students, faculty, administrators, alumni and inter-professional colleagues to build inclusive practices that lead to sustained institutional change, including service initiatives and an alumni mentoring program.

This project was funded through the Addressing Racism: A Call to Action for Higher Education initiative of the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement.
