Seed Grant Award: Evaluation and Training to expand the Space for Uprooting Whiteness (sfUW)

The purpose of this proposal is to fund facilitation, evaluative research, and development of training materials for an ongoing pedagogically dialogic space called the Space for Uprooting Whiteness.

Additionally, funds were used to conduct outreach to other departments to determine the feasibility of and interest in initiating such spaces elsewhere. Demonstrating feasibility and sustainability of the group, we now seek to support ongoing and expanding participation, empirically examine the impacts of the space on graduate students’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to anti-racism, and build training materials for future student facilitators.  Furthermore, the proposal helped to fund the development of scholarly work and publications on dialogic spaces for antiracism and their impact.

Spring 2021 Update:

Since October 2020, there have been 16 Spaces for Uprooting Whiteness (SFUW). There have been two presentations on the SFUW, one at the Counsel on Social Work Education National Conference and a poster presentation during the Columbia University VP&S Anti-Racism Curriculum Summit.
